UK Garage (often shortened to UKG) emerged in the mid-1990s in London, evolving from US garage and house but built around heavily swung, syncopated drums and pitched-up vocals.
It's a genre defined by groove — the rhythm doesn't march, it skips. Sub-styles include 2-step, speed garage, and the bassline-heavy 4x4 garage scene.
