What is Automation?
Automation lets you change any parameter — volume, pan, filter, FX — over time. Your DAW remembers the moves and plays them back.
- Volume automation: ride a vocal up in the chorus, down in the verse.
- Filter automation: open a filter on a synth as the drop approaches for tension.
- Pan automation: sweep a sound from left to right for movement.
- Reverb send automation: dial up reverb on the last word of a line for a tail throw.
- Anything you can turn on a knob, you can automate.
