What is Saturation?
Saturation adds harmonic overtones to a sound — extra frequencies that weren't there before. The result is warmth, fullness and weight.
- Originally a side effect of pushing tape or tubes hard. Now it's an effect on its own.
- Subtle saturation thickens a sound without making it louder.
- Heavy saturation moves into distortion territory — used for grit and character.
- Great on bass, vocals, snare and master bus for analogue-style polish.
- Toggle clean / saturated below to hear how a flat sound becomes round and full.
